What’s Your Escape Room Personality?

There are many personality types you see come out in an escape room.

People really take on a Jekyll & Hyde way when the timer begins. Here’s a breakdown of some of the common ones. Maybe you’ll see a few you recognise in other people, and yourself.

1) The Control Freak

A classic. Type A personality usually. Can’t bear the thought of doing the puzzles out of order, even if you have the clues ready to go. Often you’ll have an inkling of this person beforehand but sometimes they’ll surprise you. Typically they grab the iPad, start issuing commands and begin their reign immediately. Our experience says its best to just follow along, lest you face their wrath.

2) The Thinker

Quiet. Composed. Observing everything going on. Basically a silent assassin of puzzles. They’ll be trying everything in their heads and then speak up, usually (annoyingly) with the right answer. Always useful to have one or two, but fill a room with them and you may not get far for lack of actions.

3) The Organiser

A true god-send. An organiser will keep a team in-line in an effective and friendly manner. They direct other team members, remove things you’ve used already, and just generally keep a gentle hand on the wheel to make sure you’re on course. These guys will shave 5 minutes off your escape time no worries.

4) The Wall Flower

Maybe they were dragged along. Maybe they’re just here for the drinks. Maybe they’ve had too many drinks. Whatever the reason, the wall flower is just that. Hanging off to the side, in their own world, mostly acting as decoration. Occasionally they speak up with something, the usefulness of which tends to vary from somewhat-helpful to are-you-even-in-the-same-room-as-us-right-now?

5) The One Man Team

This one is pretty self explanatory. Its that person that believes they are the key. They alone possess the knowledge, wits, and bravery to triumph. They will lead you to victory! They usually don’t. If anything they get in the way by injecting themselves into every single puzzle to try and claim the solve. Should you escape though they will regale you with how lucky you were to have them, how you would’ve been lost otherwise.

Recognise any of these types from your last room? Let them know! Or maybe you’ll notice them in your next room now. Maybe we’re missing a type? Let us know if we are! Either way, see you at your next room!
